Until I Die by Amy Plum Review

Oh my goodness, can I say that the ending of this book was one of the biggest cliffhangers that I have read in a while?

Well, I already said that but it's pretty true.

I wasn't going to pick up this book originally because I didn't remember whether I read the first one or not. Turns out, after checking goodreads I did read the book and gave it a five star rating.I picked it up, and decided to read it first even though I have like 10 other books waiting to be read.

I am quite glad that I read this book first. Here is the summary of the book according to goodreads.com:

Kate and Vincent have overcome the odds and at last they are together in Paris, the city of lights and love.

As their romance deepens there’s one question they can’t ignore: How are they supposed to be together if Vincent can’t resist sacrificing himself to save others? Although Vincent promises that he’ll do whatever it takes to lead a normal life with Kate, will that mean letting innocent people die? When a new and surprising enemy reveals itself, Kate realizes that even more may be at stake—and that Vincent’s immortality is in jeopardy.

In Die for Me, Amy Plum created a captivating paranormal mythology with immortal revenants and a lush Paris setting. Until I Die is poised to thrill readers with more heart-pounding suspense, spellbinding romance, and a cliff-hanger ending that will leave them desperate for the third and final novel in the series.

Going into this book, I did not remember anything that happened in the first book considering I read it in May of 2011. It has been more than 2 years since and I finally decide to pick up the sequel. How lame of me.

But anyways, while reading this book, I discovered all the reasons I loved the first book. Considering this is a middle book, I was kind of expecting a let down with this, but that was not true. Oh my goodness, this book was good. It did have the sort of lully informationy stage of a middle book, but that did not bring it down at all.

The characters are all wonderful and lovable. I didn't think I would like Georgia, but I love her. I love Violette. I love Arthur, Ambrose, Jules, EVERYBODY.

Here go the spoilers. I'm seriously going to summarize this whole book so that I can read the next book knowing what happened. I am definitely not going to wait a whole 2+ years to read the next one. In fact, I just put a hold on it :)

So in the beginning, we see Kate in a fight scene. She's practicing with Vincent. After their debacle with Lucien, Kate was learning to fight (because who wouldn't learn to defend themselves after they almost die?). Then it skips to a "party" thrown for Charles and Charlotte who are going away for a while because of what Charles did (went to a numa and tried to destroy himself). At this party, we are introduced to Violette and Arthur who are old old revenants and have agreed to come and help with discovering the numa's plans.

We discover some stuff like Vincent is JB's second in command and will take over once JB retires or dies or something. We also discover that JB thinks Vincent is the Champion who is supposed to save all revenants and do something or other (prophecies.... who knows?). (Personally I think the Champion is Kate). Kate gets dropped off at home.

Genevieve (who is a revenant who married a human) calls them and tells them her husband dies. They have a funeral for him and Kate runs off because she doesn't want to face the reality of that happening to Vincent and her one day. Vincent finds her.Genevieve go with Charlotte down near Nice so that she can escape from the memories of losing her love.

Day before school starts, Vincent takes Kate out on a picnic in January (this was cute). The decide to go to a war museum... but on the way, Vincent has to save someone but he can't because of his promise not to die.... Kate saw the hesitation in his eyes. He decides on an alternate route but also ends up saving the people form the runaway truck.

Kate decides to do something rather than sitting and waiting for Vincent to come up with a solution for their problems. She goes snooping in her grandpa's book collection and finds something small about the Bardia (revenants). Violette doesn't like Georgia. Georgia doesn't like Violette. JB has a house meeting. Arthur says that kate shouldn't know this info because she's human and might compromise their safety. Basically he was being racist against kate. Kate is upset.

Kate discovered that Violette used to like Vincent but is over that now. Kate and Violette become friends through coffee dates and movies. Vincent and Kate go to an Opera house. Vincent tries to get kate to talk to her friends from her past (in Brooklyn). She sends them an email explaining her distance. Georgia tells Kate to check their grandpa's gallery. She does and finds a book called Immortal love. It tells her the answer lies in Sainy-Ouen with a guerisseur (sort of like a healer/shaman) and she took JB's version to piece this together. . She keeps this from Vincent because Vincent is keeping his secret as well (he looks tired and said he'll tell kate about it after his experiment is complete). Vincent goes dormant for 3 days.

The next day she goes and looks for the shop with the guerisseur. She finds it but they be closed. A shop owner tells her they are opened tuesday through thursday. She goes back tuesday but the shop owner next to it says they owners are gone for about 2 weeks. Kate meets Sebastian, Georgia's boy toy. They walk Georgia to the bar where she's supposed to be meeting him, but they get attacked by numa. Fight fight fight happened. Kate takes Georgia home.

Next night, Vincent takes Kate to a Revenant wedding. We discover that JB is dating Gaspard (OMG). Vincent gives Kate a Signium Bardia (signal that she is a kindred and knows about revenants).

Omg, i'm tired of writing this so i'll just skip ahead. Kate finds Guerisseur and more numa attacks. Freaking violette is the betrayer of the revenant. She's working with the Numa to gain control of Paris. She tried to kill Georgia. Georgia survives but Vincent is now dead and Violette had his body. Things happen. and Kate is like terrified for Vincent. She goes to a bridge and then Nicolas (Lucien's second) gives her flowers that symbolizes funerals. Kate knew when Vincent had left the world.... but then she hears his voice saying Mon Ange and..... CLIFF HANGER.

Bitter Blood By Rachel Caine

*JUST A WARNING* *THIS POST CONTAINS A LIST OF SPOILERS BECAUSE I REALLY DO NOT WANT TO FORGET WHAT I AM READING BECAUSE IT WILL BE A WHILE BEFORE I CAN GET MY HANDS ON FALL OF NIGHT. I NEED TO REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED AND THE ONLY WAY THAT CAN HAPPEN IS IF I MAKE MYSELF A SUMMARY OF WHAT HAPPENED*

Summary provided by GoodReads.com:

For years, the human and vampire residents of Morganville, Texas, have managed to co-exist in peace. But now that the threat to the vampires has been defeated, the human residents are learning that the gravest danger they face is the enemy within… Thanks to the eradication of the parasitic creatures known as the draug, the vampires of Morganville have been freed of their usual constraints. With the vampires indulging their every whim, the town’s human population is determined to hold on to their lives by taking up arms. But college student Claire Danvers isn’t about to take sides, considering she has ties to both the humans and the vampires. To make matters worse, a television show comes to Morganville looking for ghosts, just as vampire and human politics collide. Now, Claire and her friends have to figure out how to keep the peace without ending up on the nightly news… or worse.

Now for my review: (written right after I finished so I was having an "idolize the book" moment)

Oh my goodness. Oh my flippity do da goodness. I have no words as to how amazing this book was, especially the last half. Oh my goodness. The myrnin chapters are completely amazing. I freaking love everything. EVERYTHING. Myrnin is my favorite character and it hurt me to see him so weak and trapped in a hole. I love this book. Oh my goodness. Stupid Naomi has to ruin everything. Oh my goodness.

All the character development, it just makes you fall in love with one, if not all, of the characters, including Oliver. I.... Cannot even fathom words to properly explain how I feel about this single book, let alone the whole series. I sincerely hope that Claire will end up choosing Morganville and working with myrnin instead of MIT because frankly I love her and myrnin together, not as a couple but as friends. I just need the next book and I need it now but I can't really get it because I am pretty much broke as F.

*READ NEXT PART AT OWN RISK. BASICALLY A SUMMARY OF THE WHOLE FREAKING BOOK BECAUSE I NEED TO REMEMBER THINGS FOR THE NEXT BOOK* Now for the Spoilers:

Basically in no particular order. Just what I remember to happen in the book.
Ok, so Naomi is back and better (if you could say better... more like eviler) than ever. Remember in Black Dawn? and how the Draug saved her from being killed. Well it turns out that it was Oliver's plan to have her killed. So when she came back, her first thing was to get control of Oliver. Naomi has the same vampire voodoo controly magic power as Amelie except hers is subtle. She bit Oliver and bascially made him her puppet. Amelie was in a weak state and allowed this evil Oliver to gain her trust. Therefore, Naomi was controling Oliver in order to get to her ultimate agenda of ruling Morganville and putting the Vampires on top of the food chain.

This meant that humans were losing their rights. Amelie had a decree that says everyone, including vampires, have to have their ID cards. These ID cards have blood type, who the protector is, and a microchip (according to Claire) for the humans. The vampire ID cards allow each vampire to have ONE free hunt (murder) of a human, no charge. Shane, Claire, and the rest of the gang have a problem with that. They went to talk to the mayor (NOW HANNAH) but there was no success. Then Michael and Claire went to talk to Amelie. Michael got hurt because people in Morganville weren't actually very accepting of his marriage to Eve (ERMAGERD, AWESOME). Amelie was no help.

So, while they exited Founder's Square, they meet the film crew of After Death who were trying to snoop around in Morganville basically looking for ghosts and causing trouble. There will be more of them later.

Things were getting bad in Morganville but no one knew why (because no one knew Naomi's involvement yet). Eve and Michael were getting hate from everyone because of their marriage. Hannah was removed from office. Monica Morrell was now running for mayor (due to claire and shane, shocker right?). Shane was teaching Monica how to defend herself. Captain Obvious was back (a different one). Miranda was a ghost. Michael and Eve were talking about moving out. After Death crew were roaming around. Everything was just chaos.

ERMAGERD MOMENT RIGHT HERE. OK. So Claire was just super de duper stressed. Then she heard a knocking on her door and it was freaking Myrnin outside her window. OMFG. So he goes into her bedroom and tells her to just run away from Morganville because things were just going to get worse. He told her he was leaving as well and he FREAKING KISSED HER. IT WAS AWESOME AND TERRIBLE AT THE SAME FREAKING TIME BECAUSE OMFG. SHANE AND MYRNIN AND UGH, FEELINGS.

But here is what happened to Myrnin. Instead of Naomi controlling Myrnin and making him her puppet, he decides to get rid of him. She had control of PennyFeather, the guy who tried to murder her, and Oliver as well. She basically kidnapped Myrnin, blinded him, and freaking forced him into a deep hole with water at the bottom (hole was located in the Cemetery). I really mean it when I said I enjoyed the Myrnin chapters because Myrnin is one of my favorite characters. His mind is just so freaking interesting. But they basically left him there. The whole time he was waiting for Claire to go save him.

Claire decided to go to Myrnin's lab to check up on him because she really didn't want to believe that he would actually leave. The entrance to his lab was sealed with concrete. She goes into the DAY house to use their portal and goes into Myrnin's lab. What she finds are signs that something was wrong. Frank was starving. BOB WAS FREAKING STARVING and Claire knew that Myrnin would not leave Bob the spider to fend for himself. THE FREAKING PENNYFEATHER jumps out of the shadows and starts attacking Claire. Claire opened a portal to the Glass living room. Claire gets through and Michael and Shane basically go back to the lab expecting to find Myrnin as the one who was attacking Claire. They end up killing Pennyfeather.

Ok, well later one of the people in the After Death crew got freaking killed by Jason because Jason was now a vampire too. Freaking goodness. Everyone thought Miranda was dead, but she came back to the Glass house and took Angelo (I think that was the name of the dude that got killed) to heaven.

Eve gets fired from Common Ground. She agrees to take Claire to school because she was heading over to the Police station so that she could be questioned about her brother's murder of Angelo (?). While on the way there, EVE GETS FREAKING BEAT UP BY HUMANS. *FLIPPS OFF THOSE STUPID MEMBERS OF MORGANVILLE SOCIETY* She ends up in the hospital. When Michael discovers this, he wants to go on a killing rampage and get revenge for Eve. Shane goes with Michael to make sure he doesn't do anything he regrets. They see Roy, the person who lead the gang who beat up Eve. Basically they discovered who Captain Obvious was and they didn't kill him but Michael left him scared and with broken bones and broken car.

Shane and Michael go to Captain Obvious's house and they freaking find a bunch of businessmen, Hannah, and freaking Naomi as the head of the table (they still didn't know she was the one controlling Oliver and planning to kill Amelie). Naomi tells shane to leave and she freaking bites Michael and makes him her puppet too.

OMFG, here is where it gets sad. Freaking Naomi, I hate her. Basically Michael goes back to the hospital, breaks up with Eve, KISSES CLAIRE IN FRONT OF SHANE AND MAKES SHANE BELIEVE THAT CLAIRE MAY HAVE BEEN HAVING A FREAKING AFFAIR WITH MICHAEL and basically leave.... ALL BECAUSE NAOMI WAS USING MICHAEL AS A PUPPET TO PLAY WITH THEIR EMOTIONS AND BREAK THEIR TRUST.

Anyway, Shane left in anger. He came back to the hospital and was all sulky and mad at Claire. He didn't even freaking believed her about not cheating on Shane with Michael. Stupid Shane. Eve was allowed to go home. Basically Shane left Eve in Claire care while he went off to do hell knows what and being in a pissyfit about claire. Miranda comes back and tells Claire that Myrnin was under a big white tree. Claire calls Shane and asks him to go help her. Shane basically hung up right after Claire told him that she was going to save Myrnin. She basically goes to the cemetery alone (stupid shane. Letting the love of your life go into danger alone just because you didn't believe her/ trust her).

Claire gets to the cemetery and overhears Naomi's plan to kill Amelie (because she and oliver were there to pour silver nitrate into Myrnin's hole). Naomi basically sets Michael loose on Claire and leave. Shane shoots Michael with his tranquilizer filled with silver before Claire could get hurt (thank goodness you put aside your distrusting paranoid self and went to save Claire). Claire got Myrnin free and they go to warn Amelie.

Shit hit the fan when they get to Amelie's Office. They tell Amelie. Amelie is mad. Naomi comes in with Hannah. Hannah has a crossbow. Naomi commands Hannah to freaking fire. Oliver took the first arrow. Amelie tries to escape out the window but Hannah shoots her. They are taken to the cage in the center of founder square.

Naomi tries to claim that she is the new freaking ruler. Myrnin, Shane, and Claire try to break the cage to get Amelie and Oliver out. Naomi is basically killed because Claire is a freaking BA.

At the end, Amelie punishes Oliver (He is banished from Morganville for as long as she sees fit). She tells Myrnin to go back to work in his lab. She gives Michael an ultimatum, basically chose staying married to Eve or suffer the consequences. He chose to suffer the consequences because he freaking loves Eve (OMFG, CUTE... BTW, they get back together). Claire declares that Amelie will get her into MIT and allow her to leave Morganville and to let Shane have the ability to leave as well.

But things aren't ALL fixed. Michael and Eve do make up so that's ok. Shane and Claire.... not so much. Claire isn't going to just forgive Shane this time because she felt that she's given Shane way too many chances and he just kept messing up. Shane lost her trust when he didn't trust her love. Claire was going to MIT. Shane said he was going to Boston and he will try to gain her trust back.

That was the ending of the book. OMFG, I freaking hope to hell that Claire goes back to Morganville because she belongs there. Her life is there now. She needs to work with Myrnin. She needs to be his assistant because he really challenges her. She needs to be with Eve and Michael and even Shane because that's where she truely belongs and I hope her time at MIT will make her realize that.

Thanks for reading :) Til next time, bookaddict out.

Summer Reading Program: Start

HELLO. June 1st marks the start day of many summer reading programs around the nation. I happen to be participating in 2 reading programs, which I find to be very beneficial.

I love summer reading programs, not because of the fabulous prizes, but because it actually gives me a very good reason to actually read. GO AND SIGN UP FOR YOUR LOCAL ONE NOW AND READ. Actually read, because I hate those people who just do it for the prizes and cheat. Cheating is for losers. You don't want to be a loser now do you?? I don't think so.

Since the start of the summer reading program (JUNE 1st) I have finished 1 book. It is currently june 2nd. I am a crazy book addict :P

Black Dawn By Rachel Caine

* THIS POST WILL DEFINITELY CONTAIN SPOILERS BECAUSE I HAVE TO REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED*

Ok, I would like to start off with saying that The Morganville Vampires series is one of my absolute favorite series of all time (next to The Infernal Devices).

Ok, usually, after a series has a specific number of books, I start to get bored of the series and really dread reading the next book *cough cough The Blue Bloods series cough cough* but with Rachel Caine's writing, I fall in love with the series all over again.

This book was definitely not an exception. I am falling deeper in love with this series. I am in love with everything. I love Claire and Shane together. I love Myrin and Claire together. I love Eve and Michael. I love all the characters in the book, even Oliver. Although I did have a problem with one character. I'm pretty sure whatever happened to Naomi is not over yet. Stupid Draug had to take out the silver knife. Stupid Draug.

*Sigh* nothing but good things to say about this book. If you want to read my less detailed review (ha, not really a review. Just what I said on goodreads) click here.

I really suck at writing reviews when my heart really just isn't that into it..... which you can probably tell is right now. Sorries.

Whispers at Moonrise by C.C. Hunter

First, I would like to say that the title has almost nothing to do with what happened in the book. Now I say almost because I don't actually remember a whole lot of whisperings in the moonlight so I'm not saying that there wasn't, just that I didn't remember it.

Second, I would like to say that I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH!!! Seriously! I read this book in a day. It had me hooked. Actually I love this whole series! The love war between Derek and Lucas is sweet. Burnett and Holiday refusing to acknowledge their love for each other finally gets resolved. Almost everything in this book was perfect.

After the major cliff hanger i the previous book, I felt that this book wrapped up those cliff hangers well while introducing new problems (freaking omg, the new problems are HUGE).

I am looking forward to reading the last book in the series but I'll be sad to see it end. I give this book a 4.75 out of 5 only because at certain pouts I found Kylie to be a little bit annoying.

This book, heck, this whole series is worth checking out.

Until next time.... Read on my fellow book nerds.

2 years

I've noticed that I have had this blog up for almost 2 years. I was going pretty strong in the beginning, but now it's died down. I'll never forget about you blog, even though I may not post in like over a year. I'll work hard to start posting more, but lately I have been WAY too busy to even pick up a book. I'm a senior in High School. I have college stuff to worry about and I am in 3 AP classes, one of which is AP chem which is one of the hardest classes ever. Ugh, nerdy school girl problems. Plus my job keeps me pretty occupado too. Man, I really wish I could pick up a book and just read like the wind. I truly do miss it.

OMG, I FAIL

GAH, I haven't posted a review in FOREVERS. I've just been super busy with procrastinating for school and what not. Plus, it's senior year and I am a fail. Still haven't applied to college yet. What a slacker I am.

I'm just feeling pretty down lately. Maybe a good book is exactly what I need. IDK.
