Until I Die by Amy Plum Review

Oh my goodness, can I say that the ending of this book was one of the biggest cliffhangers that I have read in a while?

Well, I already said that but it's pretty true.

I wasn't going to pick up this book originally because I didn't remember whether I read the first one or not. Turns out, after checking goodreads I did read the book and gave it a five star rating.I picked it up, and decided to read it first even though I have like 10 other books waiting to be read.

I am quite glad that I read this book first. Here is the summary of the book according to goodreads.com:

Kate and Vincent have overcome the odds and at last they are together in Paris, the city of lights and love.

As their romance deepens there’s one question they can’t ignore: How are they supposed to be together if Vincent can’t resist sacrificing himself to save others? Although Vincent promises that he’ll do whatever it takes to lead a normal life with Kate, will that mean letting innocent people die? When a new and surprising enemy reveals itself, Kate realizes that even more may be at stake—and that Vincent’s immortality is in jeopardy.

In Die for Me, Amy Plum created a captivating paranormal mythology with immortal revenants and a lush Paris setting. Until I Die is poised to thrill readers with more heart-pounding suspense, spellbinding romance, and a cliff-hanger ending that will leave them desperate for the third and final novel in the series.

Going into this book, I did not remember anything that happened in the first book considering I read it in May of 2011. It has been more than 2 years since and I finally decide to pick up the sequel. How lame of me.

But anyways, while reading this book, I discovered all the reasons I loved the first book. Considering this is a middle book, I was kind of expecting a let down with this, but that was not true. Oh my goodness, this book was good. It did have the sort of lully informationy stage of a middle book, but that did not bring it down at all.

The characters are all wonderful and lovable. I didn't think I would like Georgia, but I love her. I love Violette. I love Arthur, Ambrose, Jules, EVERYBODY.

Here go the spoilers. I'm seriously going to summarize this whole book so that I can read the next book knowing what happened. I am definitely not going to wait a whole 2+ years to read the next one. In fact, I just put a hold on it :)

So in the beginning, we see Kate in a fight scene. She's practicing with Vincent. After their debacle with Lucien, Kate was learning to fight (because who wouldn't learn to defend themselves after they almost die?). Then it skips to a "party" thrown for Charles and Charlotte who are going away for a while because of what Charles did (went to a numa and tried to destroy himself). At this party, we are introduced to Violette and Arthur who are old old revenants and have agreed to come and help with discovering the numa's plans.

We discover some stuff like Vincent is JB's second in command and will take over once JB retires or dies or something. We also discover that JB thinks Vincent is the Champion who is supposed to save all revenants and do something or other (prophecies.... who knows?). (Personally I think the Champion is Kate). Kate gets dropped off at home.

Genevieve (who is a revenant who married a human) calls them and tells them her husband dies. They have a funeral for him and Kate runs off because she doesn't want to face the reality of that happening to Vincent and her one day. Vincent finds her.Genevieve go with Charlotte down near Nice so that she can escape from the memories of losing her love.

Day before school starts, Vincent takes Kate out on a picnic in January (this was cute). The decide to go to a war museum... but on the way, Vincent has to save someone but he can't because of his promise not to die.... Kate saw the hesitation in his eyes. He decides on an alternate route but also ends up saving the people form the runaway truck.

Kate decides to do something rather than sitting and waiting for Vincent to come up with a solution for their problems. She goes snooping in her grandpa's book collection and finds something small about the Bardia (revenants). Violette doesn't like Georgia. Georgia doesn't like Violette. JB has a house meeting. Arthur says that kate shouldn't know this info because she's human and might compromise their safety. Basically he was being racist against kate. Kate is upset.

Kate discovered that Violette used to like Vincent but is over that now. Kate and Violette become friends through coffee dates and movies. Vincent and Kate go to an Opera house. Vincent tries to get kate to talk to her friends from her past (in Brooklyn). She sends them an email explaining her distance. Georgia tells Kate to check their grandpa's gallery. She does and finds a book called Immortal love. It tells her the answer lies in Sainy-Ouen with a guerisseur (sort of like a healer/shaman) and she took JB's version to piece this together. . She keeps this from Vincent because Vincent is keeping his secret as well (he looks tired and said he'll tell kate about it after his experiment is complete). Vincent goes dormant for 3 days.

The next day she goes and looks for the shop with the guerisseur. She finds it but they be closed. A shop owner tells her they are opened tuesday through thursday. She goes back tuesday but the shop owner next to it says they owners are gone for about 2 weeks. Kate meets Sebastian, Georgia's boy toy. They walk Georgia to the bar where she's supposed to be meeting him, but they get attacked by numa. Fight fight fight happened. Kate takes Georgia home.

Next night, Vincent takes Kate to a Revenant wedding. We discover that JB is dating Gaspard (OMG). Vincent gives Kate a Signium Bardia (signal that she is a kindred and knows about revenants).

Omg, i'm tired of writing this so i'll just skip ahead. Kate finds Guerisseur and more numa attacks. Freaking violette is the betrayer of the revenant. She's working with the Numa to gain control of Paris. She tried to kill Georgia. Georgia survives but Vincent is now dead and Violette had his body. Things happen. and Kate is like terrified for Vincent. She goes to a bridge and then Nicolas (Lucien's second) gives her flowers that symbolizes funerals. Kate knew when Vincent had left the world.... but then she hears his voice saying Mon Ange and..... CLIFF HANGER.
